Penne alla Arrabbiata is an Italian pasta dish known for its bold and spicy flavors. This recipe uses non-perishable ingredients, allowing you to whip up a traditional Italian favorite any time.

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Penne:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the penne according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve acup of pasta water for the sauce, then drain the penne and set aside.

2. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the garlic powder and chili flakes, stirring for about a minute to release the flavors without burning.
    • Stir in the tomato paste, adding a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired sauce consistency. Cook for 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

3. Season the Sauce:

    • Add the dried basil and oregano to the sauce, seasoning with salt to taste. Allow the sauce to simmer for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Combine Pasta and Sauce:

    • Add the drained penne to the sauce, tossing to ensure the pasta is well coated. If the sauce is too thick, add a little more pasta water to loosen it.

5. Serve:

    • Plate the penne alla Arrabbiata and top with a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese.
    • Optional: For a crunchy texture, add a sprinkle of toasted breadcrumbs if available.
